Vikings of Midgard was created with the OHR RPG maker software; it was originally intended simply as a demo for the tool used to create it. Over more than a decade, however, the game was refined into its current, full-featured state. It features 10 playable heroes, each with their own unique story, personality, and abilities.

The plot and setting of Vikings of Midgard are derived from the sagas of medieval Scandinavia, featuring characters from Viking mythology. This isn't just a Viking story, however; other influences creep in, including some modern horror elements and a series of cameos by characters from related games.
